leaving death behind

I took what will likely be my last walk through Poppelsdorf today. So it seems fitting to also post this last picture of the local undertaker, who has entertained us all these years with seasonally-appropriate displays of death.

death à la mode

I managed to get a picture of the local undertaker’s window just days before the display changed to winter. Pumpkins are not a vegetable I ever associated with death…until now. There is something kind of sinister about them. Especially the goopy insides.

rustic death

So our local undertaker seems to have gone with a rustic theme for winter. There are some fluffy white hearts set against what looks like fence posts with neutral-toned urns. To see past seasonal displays, click here.

the bright side

It has already snowed three times in the past week, with one round sticking enough to make snowmen and have snowball fights. Which made me realize that I had better get over to my neighborhood undertaker and get a picture of fall before it is too late.

sands of time

Summer is over. And yet I forgot to post this bucolic window display courtesy of my local undertaker. Here it is, replete with fish, seagulls and seaweed. The only thing missing is a wicker urn.

flowery death

As always, our local undertaker can be counted on to provide the backdrop to the season. Unfortunately his window display, like the weather, is still stuck in spring mode.

life springs eternal

Spring brings butterflies and flowers to the caskets of our local undertaker.

death takes wing

I mark the seasons by the changing coffin displays at the local undertaker. Right now, we’re still in late winter with cherubic hearts hovering over white coffins. If you missed the past seasons, click here.

german pyramids

EuroYankee finds endless entertainment in the window displays of the neighborhood undertaker. Currently: get buried Egyptian Pharaoh style. Too weird. For one year they did a “seasonal” display. The fall hedgehog motif was my favorite to date.

season of death

I’ve been following the seasonal window display of our neighborhood undertaker. The winter display was very low-key compared with summer and fall.
