The list of unattainable American junk foods continues to shrink. Dunkin’ Donuts has arrived in Germany. Today, they were handing out free samples near the marketplace, which means I now have my first donut stomach ache since moving to Europe. Yippee.

For all the Americans trying to get down with the metric system, I am providing a way to visualize one kilogram. Just look to the picture on the right. Today, there was a special on bananas at the local fruit and vegetable market: one kilo, one euro. The banana seller got pissy when I questioned whether he’d given me too much. Sure enough, when I put it on the scale at home, it weighed in at a perfect kilo. Guess I’ll be making some banana bread in the near future.
