I took what will likely be my last walk through Poppelsdorf today. So it seems fitting to also post this last picture of the local undertaker, who has entertained us all these years with seasonally-appropriate displays of death.

My sweet Grandma Mary died exactly one week ago. She was the tiny, undisputed matriarch of a large family. To me, she was a role model in selflessness, an amazing baker of birthday cakes and the only person who always remembered my birthday. I will really miss her. It was heartbreaking to watch her become old and frail. Yet I take comfort that she was surrounded by family during her last days on earth. And I’m glad that I was able to join dozens of other family members to pay tribute to her life.
