death à la mode

I managed to get a picture of the local undertaker’s window just days before the display changed to winter. Pumpkins are not a vegetable I ever associated with death…until now. There is something kind of sinister about them. Especially the goopy insides.

the bright side

It has already snowed three times in the past week, with one round sticking enough to make snowmen and have snowball fights. Which made me realize that I had better get over to my neighborhood undertaker and get a picture of fall before it is too late.

hedgehog heaven

Got busted taking photos of our neighborhood undertaker today. A woman came out and demanded to know what I was doing. Fortunately, my comical German accent and observation that “German shop windows are much more artistic than those in America” won her over. “It’s no problem,” she told me. “Take as many pictures as you want.”

I’m thinking those stuffed animals on top of the coffin are hedgehogs not groundhogs, since this is Europe. Apparently hedgehogs are lactose intollerant. Surprising they continue to thrive in the Land of Cream.

last nice day

We’ve had gorgeous, sunny weather in Bonn since early September. The last six weeks have more  than made up for the cold, gray summer. This is the first time I’ve lived in a place famous for its bad weather. I’m trying to soak up each day hoping to store u p enough sunny memories to get me through the winter. Sunday we biked to an island in the Rhine about an hour away. Then, we all went to a friend’s house and ate delicious Indian food and played Doppelkopf. It’s gorgeous out again today so I’m headed out on a photo shoot. I need pictures of all the Bonn tourist sights.
