becoming fine

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

The first warning that the sun is mean Down Under came on day one, when my travel companion got a slight sunburn despite long sleeves and a hat. Apparently one warning is all you get. Since the weather has been either “becoming fine” or “fine” ever since we arrived (apparently Australian newspaper terms for “partly sunny” and “sunny”) on the second day of our visit we went to the beach and sat under the shade of a palm tree. Sunburned! I was pretty impressed.

Other than that, we have been doing hot weather tourism, which entails as little movement as possible and lots of icecream. Nice.

i liked Sydney from the start when an adorable drug-sniffing dog “hit” on my bag and “confiscated” a contraband banana. The first day was spent in a state of jetlagged happiness. Summer. Sydney. Nice nice nice.
